Kate Colquhoun

Hi there!

I'm Kate Colquhoun, a specialised Sounds-Write trained educator with a background in education support and a local mum of three. I taught within the school system for 4+ years, assessing and teaching students in both 1:1 and group settings.

In my role as a support teacher and tutor, I’ve worked with a wide range of children, including those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, intellectual delay and other learning challenges.

I have a passion for helping children achieve and master the gift of reading and spelling...So they discover and experience the joy of learning alongside their peers.

Creating positive relationships with students, parents and schools is of utmost importance to me when it comes to achieving success. I believe educating our children is a team effort!

I want to ensure that your child receives the personalised, effective, literacy support they need to become a confident learner.

I look forward to working with you and your child!

- Kate

Reading used to be such a negative experience for our son. He would incorrectly guess many words and give up quickly because he didn’t know how to break down words into sounds. However, since learning phonics with Kate, we have seen a major transformation in his reading. Now he loves books and has started writing his own stories. He no longer guesses but trusts himself to sound out new words. We couldn’t recommend this program enough! Thank you Kate.

My sons learning path has been greatly unorthodox in so many ways. He was never one who was going to be able to learn at the same trajectory as what is considered normal or standardised in the educational system. My son was 14 years old when we found Kate. He wasn’t reading at all. He wasn’t familiar with sounds and had minimal letter recognition. This was by no means of lacking in trying on both our parts. We found Kate at the exact moment he was ready to be shown the way. To witness the unfolding of something that is so easily taken for granted like reading in a boy that had been trying for such a long time and just hadn’t been able to grasp, has been nothing short of miraculous. Kates faith in my son, her undying patients and compassion for my sons challenges and ability to find a path for him has been overwhelmingly heartfelt. Because of Kate, my son has renewed hope in himself and for his life. We are so thankful for this gift.

Kate has been fantastic with the care and support she has shown my daughter. This has improved her love for learning and her confidence. She has a better understanding of literacy and is more willing to complete homework and engage with schoolwork. We are so happy to have such a high quality service that caters to people with learning difficulties in the local area.
